About

I’m Paul from California. I am a former astrophysicist. My Irish wife, our toddler, and I moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Portrunny, Co. Roscommon in May 2020 to farm. We spent years planning our return to Ireland, practicing organic vegetable farming and humane animal husbandry.

Now settled, we are working to grow our vision. Windfall Farm: a productive, diverse orchard system that is rotationally-grazed by chickens and pigs. The fruit crops benefit from animal fertilizer, while the pigs eat fallen fruit, and the chickens keep pest and parasite loads under control. We have taken lessons from agroecology, agroforestry, and permaculture design.

We grow berries and apples, produce jams and sauces, free-range eggs, free-range chicken, and soon, pork. As our orchard matures, we will begin to produce cider from our heritage apples. We want to provide food for our community that is both delicious and responsible.

  • We do not spray
  • Our animals are raised on pasture
  • We strive to use organic and local ingredients
  • We minimize our waste, energy use, and carbon footprint. We use a scythe to cut grass, hand sheers to prune, a spade to dig, and will use pigs to till, when necessary.
